I get the mistique of Kona coffee...and I'm a pretty focused foodie who knows flavor and nuance. I was disappointed with this coffee. I bought this to see what the excitement was about Kona coffee, and I'm taking the family on a trip to hawaii in November and wanted to know what to look for. I had read good reviews about this one. Though I took all the necessary steps to make the perfect V60 pour-over coffee this past weekend, I was disappointed in the flavor. It was not smooth, tasted burnt, and really didn't provide the elevated caffein pop I had read about. I'll continue to drink the rest of it because at more than $40/bag I'm not going to waste it...but for my money, any coffees in the Intelligentsia family blow this out of the water in all coffee categories. I'll drink that happily for 25% of the cost. I can't believe people pay this much for this coffee. I was hoping I just made it wrong. I've had coffees from all over the world and I drink it black to enjoy the nuanced flavors (citrus, berries, chocolate, whatever it is!) and terrior (to steal a wine term!)....but with this coffee, it all just fell flat.
Update after looking at additional pictures/reading other comments...I cannot believe this is a "medium roast". My beans look black and oily like a dark roast. Bag says medium roast. I drink medium roast. I ordered medium roast.
Tastes like nothing better than Starbuck's Dark Roast. I keep drinking it because I am not going to waste $40 for coffee, but I keep getting disappointed with how much I spent on the bag. I never mind paying for quality (it's why I bought it in the first place!)...but this misses the mark.
